Corporate Responsibility
Corporate Responsibility is a long-established tradition within Forth Ports, and one which is encouraged throughout the organisation. We see the Corporate Responsibility awards we have received over the years as recognition of our employees’ commitment in this area. In 2017 over a third of our employees were involved in Corporate Responsibility activities, which had a positive impact on over 20,000 people in our communities.
We are delighted to have won the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award at the 2018 National Logistics Awards – the premier awards event for the logistics and supply chain operations sector.
We received the ‘Inspiring Career Opportunity’ award at the Thurrock Education Awards 2017, in recognition of assisting young people in the local community to explore their career potential.
At Forth Ports, we strive to be fully socially aware and heavily engaged in supporting all the communities in which we live and work. Our Corporate Responsibility approach recognises that our activities as a company impact on society, the environment, and the economy. It informs the way we conduct our business, ensuring we operate ethically and in a transparent and accountable way.
As our communities are at the heart of our Corporate Responsibility Policy our activities vary to reflect individual local needs. However, there are a number of common activities which are core across the group:
- Working with local authorities, as well as regional and national bodies including Government Departments, Chambers of Commerce, and Charitable Organisations
- Supporting local schools, colleges and universities including our own degree programme at Plymouth University and school discovery weeks which are accredited for the national curriculum in Scotland
- Apprenticeships, traineeships and internships
- Support for local community projects
- Support for education and work positive initiatives to help disadvantaged groups
- Port Open Days
The Tilbury on the Thames Trust was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in February 2016. The Trust is governed by a board of trustees drawn from the port and the local community, bringing considerable expertise in skills and training, regeneration and local community knowledge to this project. This board has approved a vision statement to blend community and commercial uses at the Grade II* Cruise Terminal complex in Tilbury as part of a wider ambition to restore heritage, generate training opportunities and connect the Port of Tilbury to the communities of the Thames Gateway. The Cruise Terminal has been a hive of community activity this year including the fantastic 70th anniversary celebrations of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush in June and the Port Open Day in July.
